Man Accused of Punching, Beating Disabled Man with a Belt

FLORENCE, S.C. (WPDE) — Deon Alexander Rogers, 23, is charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult after a disabled man was punched in the eye and then hit across the back with a belt while at the Pee Dee Regional Center, according to a news release from the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

SLED says Rogers was working at the center on Sept. 25, 2016, when the beating happened.

The arrest warrant said the man, “suffered a swollen and bruised left eye and bruising from his shoulders down to his buttocks.”

The Pee Dee Regional Center’s website says its “provides 24-hour residential care, supervision, and treatment to SCDDSN’s most fragile consumers, those individuals with more complex, severe disabilities. Center care is generally recommended only when all other appropriate community services are not available. “
