SC Sheriff Threatened
BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) – State police say a man went to the home of a sheriff in South Carolina and tried to kick down his door while making death threats and racial slurs.
Arrest warrants by the State Law Enforcement Division said 48-year-old Charles Robinson is charged with threatening a public official and trying to break into a home.
Authorities say Robinson went to Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon’s house in Bennettsville around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, yelling the threats and slurs and pulling and kicking on the screen door.
Investigators did not say why Robinson, who was charged Monday, was angry at the sheriff. Robinson is white, and Lemon is black.
If convicted of both felonies, Robinson faces up to 15 years in prison. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
