Claflin Travels to Augusta for Mid-Week Game
Orangeburg, S.C. (Claflin) — The Claflin University baseball team will wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule Wednesday(April 26) at Augusta University.
First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium, which is also the home of the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Championships.
The contest is the second meeting between Claflin and Augusta this season. The Jaguars won the first game 12-5 in Orangeburg.
Since the March 14 match-up, both teams haves played below .500 in the win-loss column. The Panthers are 8-15 since the contest including back-to-back wins over Benedict College last weekend. In taking the SIAC series over Benedict 2-1, Claflin improved its season worksheet to 14-29 overall.
As for Augusta, the Jaguars are 9-13 following the victory over the Panthers and 19-24 for the season. In its last outing, Augusta took two-of-three games from Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference series this past weekend.
The Panthers are 7-12 on the road, while the Jaguars host a 13-7 record at home.
Offensively, Claflin is hitting .271 for the season as compared to .269 for Augusta. The Panthers has generated 260 runs with 16 home runs, while the Jaguars have scored 248 runs and hit 19 homers.
Darrell Langston tops Claflin on the offensive end with six home runs, 30 RBIs and a .354 batting averaging. In non-conference games, Langston has belted three home runs and has driven in 17 runs.
Jonathan Parnell, II is hitting .349 with 26 RBIs for the Panthers.
Claflin has three additional players hitting over the .300 mark, Lyndale Morley (.344), Elliott Melton (.333) and Rashad Bivens (.304).
Tyler Roberts leads Augusta in batting at .325 with 22 RBIs followed by Jim Wagner with five home runs and 26 RBIs.
Cody Pugh is the top pitcher for Augusta with a 5-0 record, while the Claflin staff is led by Keamond Eison and Eric Dubose with three wins each.
After the contest against Augusta, Claflin will turn its attention to Lane College for an important season-ending SIAC three-game series on the road this weekend, April 29–30.
