Release: Stage 5 Theatre will be presenting George M. Cohan’s 1913 play “Seven Keys to Baldpate” on the Stage 5 Theatre stage located at #4 Stadium Park, 947 S Stadium Rd., Columbia, SC February 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24th, 2013. This year marks the 100th year since this play was initially presented to the public. It is a “murder” and “Who Done IT” with twists and comic relief thrown in. It is a fun evening for all. This play has it all – murder, ghost, hermits, crooked politicians, bribes, thugs, mob connections, pretty girls, snow, wind, gun shots, and death.Return to event list.
The play takes place in a deserted Inn, a summer retreat for rich New Yorkers to get away from the “Big Apple” for a weekend of relaxation and play in the mountains. It is closed for the winter and a New York playwright “Magee” has come to the Inn for seclusion and peace to finish his “Novel”. He has a bet with his publisher that he can complete The Novel in “24” hours at the Inn. It is a “high stakes” bet and a lot rides on him completing the work in time. But there are constant interruptions. Ghosts appear, mob bosses send thugs to use the Inn as a meeting place to bribe local politicians for the right to build rail cars in the nearby town. Then there are those, locals, who think they need to steal the $20,000,000 dollar bribe and retire to a nice warm sandy beach.
The cast consists of twelve local members with four women and eight men playing the characters in the play. Mitchell Hilburn designed the set and lights for this play. Michael Bailey is the Director. Charles Chavers is producing.
The Cast and Crew will be opening the Production for a Valentine’s Day special night on February 14, 2013. There will be a special admissions price as well. Couples will be admitted for $10.00 and Single seats $7.50, for this night only. Regular admission prices for the remainder of the performances are $20.00 per General Admission, and $15.00 per seat for Military, Students, Seniors (60+), and groups of (10+). On Valentine’s Day’s performance, for a $5.00 or more donation to the Stage 5 Building Fund, a glass of Wine (red or white) will be offered to each adult (over 21) donator.
