Cash Mob Spurs Local Business

By Rochelle Dean

The Five Points Association held a cash mob for one of the oldest businesses in the area, Papa Jazz. After 30 years in the same neighborhood, the music store has become a popular place to shop for rare music. Wednesday night night dozens shopped at the record store in an effort to shop and support local businesses.

Executive Director of the five points association, Meritt McHaffie says they wanted to choose a business that has been a main stay in the community.
Papa Jazz has been giving customers what they want for years, now it was there turn to get something back, sales. The same sales, that help the association pay for local parades and festivals.

While business is good, McHaffie says it is always important to highlight and support local small businesses in an effort to help them thrive in what has become a very competitive retail market.

The President and Manager of Papa Jazz, Tim Smith says the event was a success and a honor to see how much support he is getting from those in his community.

Organizers are using this as a test pilot, and will determine of the cash mobs will become a permanent fixture in 5 points after they see how receptive the community is to the idea.
