Deadly Start to New Year
(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C, --
Richland county Sheriff's have been working overtime as they investigate several violent crimes in just the first two days of the new year.
A shooting in the 3 hundred block of Powell Road near Hard Scrabble Road that left one man dead started 2013 off with a bang.
3am Wednesday morning Investigators were called to Parklane Road Near Decker Boulevard where authorities say the body of a woman was found stuffed in a rubber maid barrel.
Officials say the unidentified women had multiple stab wounds although the cause of death has not yet been released. Meanwhile the victims' live in boyfriend, Faaisu Toese is behind bars suspected in the crime.
A few hours later, another stabbing that left three people injured, also in Richland County.
Residents who have lived In Columbia their entire life say they remember a time when you could leave your doors unlocked and your guard down, but things are changing.
"when we were young we could go outside. Our parents would let us play for hours. Now i won't let my daughter go outside without me being with her."
While residents say they're on guard, they also say the violence isn't only here at home, but all over the country. A sad reality for many of the families we spoke with who tell ABC Columbia News they just want to be able to raise their children and keep them out of harms way.
