Extreme Couponing Helps the Hungry
(WOLO) WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. Joyce Hansell doesn't play around when it comes to buying groceries. One episode of extreme couponing encouraged the thrifty shopper to find out how to save on her grocery bill.
Within the first week she was able to cut her costs by half. Now she can go into the store and purchase just about anything totaling upwards of a thousand dollars and spend no more than 50 bucks.
Hansell spends hours clipping coupons from 500 newspapers donated to her each week. With a coupon in hand for every item, her savings are now more than 97 percent if not better.
That's only the beginning. Hansell isn't only using this paying power to feed her family, but is also feeding other families in the Midlands who are down on their luck.
Hansell's organization, Feeding Lexington will provide families with a month's worth of food. All she asks is that they take one of her free coupon classes so they too can learn the tricks of the trade. Hansell's motto, "give someone a fish and they can eat for a day. Teach them how to fish and they can eat for a lifetime."
