Fighting Back for 5 Points
Liz McIntyre and Paige Sharkey have lived in the five points neighborhood for two years. In that amount of time they tell us they've seen a drastic spike in the amount of crime taking place in their community.
Not only have they heard about the reports from police and area neighbors but they've lived through it.
Sharkey says she was in five points during a recent shooting and stood there listening to the gunshots. Meanwhile her roommate Liz says she was harassed walking from her car to her front door before she realized their home had been broken into.
The combination if incidents led the two Seniors to take action. They started the fighting back for 5 points facebook page which in less than a week has already generated more than 6 thousand members. All people like them, who in the community want to find ways to make their neighborhood safer.
Sharkey and Mcintyre say they're working along with the Columbia Police Department, and hope to hold a fundraiser next month that will help them raise money helping them work closer to that goal.
