NBA Veteran Admits He's Gay
(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., --
Jason Collins made history after gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated admitting "I'm black and I'm gay". Collins is the first active player to ever come out of the closet, a move that has some divided.
We caught up with sports fans here in the area who say they wonder how the news will effect the free agent as he braces for a trade to a new team.
Some say the news could have a negative impact, possibly shunning him from the brotherhood like bond on and off the court among team mates. Others however say, he may get even more respect for being proud enough to take such a bold stand.
Nationally the issue is just as divided. President Barack Obama personally called Collins to commend him, while sports writer Chris Broushard said during a sports talk show, his admission means "he is not a Christian."
