Police Beefing Up Weekend Patrols in 5 Points

By Rochelle Dean

Everyone we spoke to says they are looking forward to this weekends match up between USC and Georgia. A game which typically draws thousands of fans to the midlands.

And while plans are underway as revelers thik about what they plan to do over the game weekend, many of them say they're partying will be closer to home.

The past few violent weekends in the five points district is on the minds of many who say they'd rather celebrate closer to home instead of having to keep a watchful eye while out and about.

1st District City Council Member, Sam Davis tells us people do not need to fear coming to five points. Tuesday afternoon City police, and members of council sat down to discuss crowd control, underage drinking and how to best curb some of the violence they say has been taking place in the area.

The first plan of action is more police. Davis says they plan to beef up police presence to the tune of 50 more additional officers who will be in uniformed and plain clothes monitoring all suspicious activity this weekend. Although they admit they're still in the process of putting more solutions in place they hope will fix the issues of concern for good.
