Preparing for Storm Season

By Rochelle Dean

We don't have any impending storms on the radar but that could change and when it does the State Department of Insurance wants to make sure you have all of the tools you need to stay safe.

"weather knows no boundaries, and affects every individual." According to The South carolina Department of Insurance Director, Ray Farmer. Farmer says you should have a plan in place before disaster strikes.

Check your homeowners and renters insurance to find out what is covered and what you may end up having to pay for out of pocket.

Also, be sure to take inventory of everything in your home that could be damaged in the event of a tornado or hurricane. Farmer says the best way to do this is to take pictures of items in your home. This will make it easy for insurance adjusters to process your claim and less stressful for you if you do experience losses.

Finally have a plan. Know where the safest place in your home is and make sure everyone in your home is aware of where they should be headed when a severe weather event takes place.
