Prom Safety Patrol

(WOLO) COLUMBIA, S.C., -- Thousands of students are getting ready for the big night, where they get to dress up for a fun filled night out. the Richland County Sheriff's office wants to make sure it stays that way.

The department announced plans to put a prom safety patrol in effect, increasing the amount of visibility to ensure students do not fall prey to risky behavior's that can turn tragic in the blink of an eye.

In addition to increased patrols, Sheriff's will also be conducting in school assemblies in the weeks leading up to the prom to remind students about safety measures.

Law Enforcement officials say they can keep everyone safe on their own though and are asking for parents, students and members of the community to be vigilant.

Authorities suggest parents have a prom checklist they review with their teenager that will help parents keep track of contact information, after prom parties, and who they'll be partying with.
