COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Several Occupy Columbia protesters arrested last week for refusing to leave the Statehouse grounds sued South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and state public safety officials on Wednesday, saying their First Amendment rights were trampled when they were arrested for demonstrating on public property.

South Carolina chief: Arrest verifies complaint

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The chief of security at the South Carolina Statehouse says officers arrested a protester for defecating on the grounds but couldn't remember when, and the state's public safety agency has yet to produce an incident report.
