South Carolina Legislature to take spring break

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The entire South Carolina Legislature is taking next week off.

Senators decided Wednesday not to meet for their regular Tuesday-through-Thursday schedule next week. The House is taking the next two weeks off.

Taxpayers will save tens of thousands of dollars in mileage reimbursement to legislators and money for meals and lodging.

The House decided in February not to meet the weeks before and after Easter, which falls on April 8 this year. The House previously furloughed itself for a week in February.

The Legislature's January-to-June session is scheduled to end June 7. Their yearly salary is $10,400.
