Officials gather from across SC to discuss water

South Carolina's water resources, or the lack of them, are the topic of discussion this week at a conference being attended by political leaders and scientists and those who oversee water supplies.

State Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt told the meeting that opened in Columbia on Wednesday that water and sewer improvements are needed in 37 of the state's 46 counties to help attract businesses with high-paying jobs.

There's also been discussion of ongoing disputes with other states over water supplies.

All this comes as South Carolina heads into another dry season after last winter was one of the driest on record.

The drought conditions that gripped the state most of the year have eased in recent weeks, but October and November are the driest times of the year.
