Ex-Spartanburg teacher sentence in child porn case

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A former Spartanburg school teacher has been sentenced to more than three years in prison on a child pornography charge.

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says 57-year-old Mark Anthony Soza was sentenced Tuesday to 40 months in prison.

Soza pleaded guilty in April to possession of child pornography. Prosecutors say the former Woodruff Middle and Elementary School teacher had transactions with a child pornography operation that was under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security.

Nettles says the investigation showed that Soza completed financial transactions which gave him access to websites containing child pornography.

In February, Soza confessed to authorities that he had child pornography on his computers. An analysis revealed multiple images and videos of children under 18 engaged in sexual acts.
