Federal trial delayed for accused SC kidnapper

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A federal trial has been delayed for a man accused of abducting a Columbia teen last seen more than two months.

A judge on Tuesday delayed Freddie Grant's trial on ammunition charges until January.

Gabrielle Swainson was last seen by her mother at around 4 a.m. August 18. That month, Grant was charged with kidnapping the missing teen after her blood was found on duct tape near his home.

Authorities also found .38-caliber bullets and shotgun shells — ammunition Grant isn't allowed to have as a convicted felon.

Grant has pleaded not guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition. His attorney indicated Tuesday his client would likely change that plea if he loses an evidence suppression motion.

Authorities say Grant had dated the 15-year-old's mother.
