Haley's nonprofit holding Bamberg County event

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley's community aid foundation is holding health and job fair activities in her home county.

The Original Six Foundation has planned activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Richard Carroll Elementary in Bamberg.

Bamberg County Day is the fourth event organized by The Original Six Foundation, a nonprofit Haley set up with money from her book sales. It is named for her family.

Haley says her parents and siblings referred to themselves as the "original six" as the only Indian-American family in Bamberg, where she grew up.

Hundreds of volunteers are providing free medical, dental, eye, chiropractic and diabetic screenings, as well as information on Medicaid eligibility.

Attendees can also work on their resumes, visit with employers and learn about literacy and continuing education programs.
