Saluda mayor kills self after newspaper report

SALUDA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say the mayor of Saluda killed himself the same day a newspaper published a report questioning almost $38,000 in mileage reimbursements he received from the town.

The Newberry County Coroner's Office says 58-year-old Frank Addy Jr. was found dead Sunday morning from a gunshot to the head at his family's Lake Greenwood home.

A story published by The Index-Journal of Greenwood ( ) said several companies and organizations Addy claimed mileage to visit had no record of meeting with him.

Addy claimed he drove more than 48,000 miles in 2012 for economic development for Saluda.

Addy refused to talk to the newspaper several times, saying he wasn't feeling well. He then told the newspaper he would wait until a State Law Enforcement Division investigation into the reimbursements was finished.
