COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina's unemployment agency is laying off 100 employees in June as part of a statewide reorganization that directs anyone seeking jobless benefits to use its upgraded online system.

John Finan announced Tuesday that the Department of Employment and Workforce will eliminate one-on-one help with claims June 10. He says the number of local offices offering job training and other re-employment services will shrink. Exact numbers will depend on local decisions.

The announcement comes two months after the agency ended in-person unemployment help at 17 rural offices.

Finan told The Associated Press before the official announcement that the loss of federal money required a statewide restructuring. He says South Carolina's technology will be in line with other states.
