Columbia police raising funds for ballistic vests

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia police are showing off barbecue, bikes and cars in the interest of raising money for the department.

Officers on Saturday are holding a barbecue cook-off at Carolina Ale House.

The daylong event also includes a car and bike show.

All proceeds from the event go toward buying ballistic vests for Columbia's officers.

This is laughable....the CPD doesn't include ballistic vests for their officers in their yearly budget???? That's akin to saying a library holds bbq cook-offs, car shows etc to obtain books for the public to check out or a steno pool holds such events to buy computers for typing wonder they can not keep a chief.
