Haley's husband home on leave from Afghanistan
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley is spending time with her husband during a break from his deployment to Afghanistan.
Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey told The Associated Press that Capt. Michael Haley is in the state with his family for up to two weeks. Godfrey says the leave was planned and approved by the South Carolina National Guard.
The Republican governor canceled two public events Monday in Charleston after Capt. Haley came home a few days earlier than expected. Those will be rescheduled.
Godfrey declined to give further details.
The governor and their two children bid Capt. Haley farewell at Fort Jackson in January. He was among 48 soldiers heading for a month of training before going to Afghanistan.
The unit is working to help Afghan farmers.
