SALUDA, S.C. (AP) — An off-duty Richland County deputy and his wife have been killed in a motorcycle wreck in Saluda County.

Authorities say Derek ElDada and his wife Leigh were on their Harley-Davidson when they were hit Wednesday evening by a Chevrolet Malibu that crossed the center line after running off the right side of the road. The accident happened on state Highway 391 near Lake Murray.

Investigators say ElDada died at the scene of the wreck, while his wife died at a hospital a short time later.

Troopers are investigating the wreck. No charges have been filed.

Sheriff Leon Lott says the whole department is devastated. Lott says ElDada was a deputy for nine years and he has let the officers that he supervised have time off to grieve.
