Man gets life in prison in Socastee shooting death


CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A Columbia man has been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a man at a home in Socastee last year.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports ( ) an Horry County jury returned the guilty verdict against 31-year-old Marcus Wright on Thursday after two hours of deliberation.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jerome Green of Socastee was shot to death in April 2012.

Wright on Thursday denied shooting Green.

Wright also was convicted of trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and illegal possession of a gun.

Katrina Green says the family feels better after the conviction and sentence.

Wright was arrested three times while he was out of jail awaiting trial. Prosecutor Donna Elder says one of those charges was soliciting someone to kill a witness.
