Police name suspect in Columbia dragging death

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia police say they have a suspect in the death of a man who was dragged under a van for about a quarter of a mile.

Investigators said Tuesday they are seeking a warrant against 29-year-old Dany Zuniga-Torres on a charge of hit and run resulting in death.

Authorities say Zuniga-Torres was trying to break up a fight between two men Sunday, then got into his van and drove off. Police say the men fighting were between the van and trailer. One of them escaped, while 52-year-old Calvin Smith was caught under the trailer.

Investigators say Smith was dragged more than 1,600 feet.

Police say Zuniga-Torres lives in West Columbia, but also has ties to Florida and Honduras.
