COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — After all the recent heavy rains, South Carolina officials say people should be extra careful on the state's waterways. They say the high water levels can conceal objects in the water, and make for dangerous currents. Also, many boat landings are flooded and not safe to launch a watercraft.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina firefighters can now get behavioral health support while on the job, thanks to a pilot program started by a group of state and national organizations. The program's aim is to prevent firefighter deaths and injuries in the line of duty by providing firefighters and their families with counseling and psychological support.

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (AP) — A Travelers Rest man was fatally injured when a July Fourth firework exploded in his hands. The Greenville County Coroner's Office says 54-year-old Robin Rhodes Smith died on the way to a hospital.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The new chief executive officer of Duke Energy Corp. wants to change the way the utility is regulated in the Carolinas and Florida. According to a Wall Street analyst, Duke Energy CEO Lynn Good wants it to be easier for the electric company to pass along the cost of big power plants a little at a time.
