COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County is raising money to help the children of an off-duty sheriff's deputy and his wife who were killed in a motorcycle crash.

Sheriff Leon Lott says proceeds from a chicken bog fundraiser will support the daughters of Derrick and Leigh ElDada. Lott is working with the Columbia Police Department and several local businesses to put on the event.

The couple was on their Harley-Davidson when they were hit June 19 by a Chevrolet Malibu that crossed the center line of Highway 391 after running off the right side of the road.

The other driver in that crash, Scotrell Praylow, has been charged with driving with a suspended license.

Derrick ElDada had been a deputy for nine years.
