COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Two ceremonies are being held in Spartanburg and Charleston to honor South Carolina veterans of the Korean War.

South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott says Saturday's events are a way to recognize the bravery of the men and women who fought for their country and give them the credit they deserve.

Former prisoner of war Bill Funchess of Clemson is speaking at the ceremony in Spartanburg that's scheduled for the University of South Carolina-Upstate Readiness Center at 9 a.m.

Retired Army Gen. Ernest Brockman of Charleston speaks at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston at 4 p.m.

At both events, Scott says veterans and family members of deceased veterans are receiving special certificates of appreciation.
