SC Democratic Party schedules Columbia open house

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina's Democrats are gearing up for the 2014 elections with the opening of their new headquarters.

On Saturday, the party is scheduled to hold an open house at its new offices in downtown Columbia.

Organizers say U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn and state Sen. Vincent Sheheen are expected to attend.

The event is free and open to the public, and box lunches will be sold.

Also on Saturday, Democrats are launching a community service initiative called "SC Democrats Care." Party Chairman Jaime Harrison says the effort's first project will be a school supply drive next month.
