Authorities ID man's body found near Saluda River

HONEA PATH, S.C. (AP) — Volunteers searching for a missing Laurens County man have found his body near the Saluda River in Greenville County.

Laurens County Sheriff's Lt. Judy Stiles says the body was found at around 2 p.m. Sunday near the home of Billy Joe Garrett.

The 82-year-old man has been missing since Jan. 29. A reward of $5,000 had been offered for information related to his disappearance.

Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans says Garrett's body was found in woods across the river from Honea Path. Evans says Garrett likely died from hypothermia less than a day after he disappeared.
