COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The first television campaign commercial in the crowded race for South Carolina superintendent of education has hit the airways.

The 31-second TV ad for Republican candidate Sally Atwater debuted Monday. The statewide ad will run on both cable and over-the-air television through the primary election on June 10.

The widow of GOP strategist Lee Atwater had $58,500 cash on hand as of March 31. Her total contributions of $86,000 included a $47,500 loan to herself.

Atwater is among eight Republicans, four Democrats and an independent vying for the position.
