SC State Museum reopens after $23M renovation
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The State Museum is opening a glittering array of new attractions, including an observatory and a 55-foot domed planetarium after a $23 million renovation.
Saturday's grand opening in Columbia is being marked with live beach, blues and gospel music.
The new planetarium will show movies and also has a rare 16-foot refracting telescope constructed by the family of telescope pioneer Alvan Clark.
A new gallery holds the museum's 65 antique telescopes that make up the best collection in the nation.
Visitors will be entertained by launches of model rockets and an art exhibit about space and the universe.
