COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Spartanburg County man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after admitting he fatally beat an acquaintance with a brick while robbing him.

Prosecutors said Monday that 25-year-old Wade Shippy of Pacolet pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and armed robbery in the November 2012 death of 18-year-old Antwan Bailey, whose decaying body was found in the woods April 7, 2013, at the bottom of a 30-foot embankment.

Investigators say Shipper was the last person to see Bailey alive and gave officers conflicting accounts before eventually confessing. His cell phone records put him in the area where Shippy's body was found.

Deputy Solicitor Derrick Bulsa says Shippy offered to help Bailey buy a car, then got greedy and decided to take his money and left Shippy to die.
