A View of the SC State Museum's New Observatory

By Crysty Vaughan

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)-- We take you inside the newly expanded South Carolina State Museum for an up close view of the 1926 Alvan Clark refracting telescope.
The telescope is housed inside the new observatory.

The Observatory will be open for viewing between 11am-3pm .
Here we see a look at the sun and a sunspot from nearly 96 million miles away.

The observatory will also be open in the coming weeks, once an evening, for star gazing.

The South Carolina State Museum is hosting a grand opening Saturday for the $23 million dollar expansion, which includes a new planetarium, observatory and 4D theatre.
