SC: Upstate Man Shot to Death in Backyard

By Alicia Barnes

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) _ A 40-year-old man is dead after being shot several times in the backyard of an Anderson home.

Authorities said Clarence Sullivan was found injured around 3 a.m. Monday and died a short time later at the hospital.

Anderson County deputies say they are interviewing witnesses and still trying to determine a motive for the shooting. Investigators don't think the shooting was random. Someone scratched ``I hate you'' and profanities into Sullivan's car last month.

No arrests have been made.

An autopsy has been ordered on Sullivan.
