Arrests Made in Connection with Officer Involved Shooting

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)-- Columbia Police have arrested two suspects in connection with an officer involved shooting off Vernon Street.
Shawn Maurice Pickens is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol.
A 16-year-old is also charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, Possession of a Firearm by a Person under the Age of 18.
Columbia Police say the charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the 700 block of Vernon Street. Two members of CPD’s Drug Suppression Team (DST) were responding to a concerned citizen’s emergency call about a man with a gun in the neighborhood.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they say the spotted two males who fit the description of the suspects.
One of the suspects allegedly presented a gun to officers at the time of the incident. The 16-year-old received gunshot wounds during the incident.
His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening say police.
