GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ The mother of the 3-year-old boy who drowned after falling into a swimming pool in Greenville County has been charged with homicide by neglect.

Thirty-six-year-old Marian Brownfield Stringer of Greenville was charged Wednesday in the death of 3-year-old Chance Stringer.

Sheriff's deputies accuse Marian Stringer of failure to properly supervise her son. An arrest warrant states that officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol when they responded to the home Tuesday afternoon.

The boy was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It was not clear if the woman has a lawyer. She was being held without bond at the Greenville County jail.
