KERSHAW CO. (WOLO) -- Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says
investigators have arrested twenty one year old Stephen Ross Kelly of Lugoff in connection with the murder of Briana Nicole Rabon.
Briana Rabon’s body was found in a wooded area behind Haig’s
Creek Subdivision in Elgin on February 26th
Kelly is being detained at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
A bond hearing will be held during the next term of general session court in Kershaw County. Sheriff Jim Matthews will hold a press conference to discuss details.

The difference in day and night at an Elgin crime scene could be the key to solving 18 year old Briana Rabon's murder.

"Two of my officers went back out there today in good day light and did a broader search of the area around it and actually found a very key piece of evidence," says Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews

Matthews would not elaborate on what that piece of evidence is.

Matthews says DNA evidence, from the possible killer, and other evidence were taken from the scene Wednesday.

That's also when Rabon's body was discovered.

"Whoever put her there knew the area," says Matthews

Thursday, Matthews could not go into detail on how Rabon was killed saying only she was not beaten or disfigured.

We've now learned, through the coroner, that Rabon died from asphyxiation by strangulation.

Neighbors tell us, by back roads, the distance from where Rabon's body was found and where her car was left, at a Waffle House on Hwy. 601, is about two miles.

But, the Waffle House may also offer other clues through surveillance video.

"We thought we had her identified in the Waffle House with somebody, but that turned out not to be the case," says Matthews

Matthews says he believes it's highly likely Rabon new her killer.

Authorities have turned to social media for help.

"There's a lot of information on social media. We were looking at social media this whole time to try and come up with someone people who might have seen her last," says Matthews

On her Instagram account we found a screen shot of a conversation with her mother with the caption, "I don't know what I'd do without my Mom checking up on me."

Also on the account, a picture of Briana Rabon that was posted the very day she disappeared.

"This is our number one priority, we're not going to put this on the back shelf," says Matthews.
