Robbed and Ransacked: Jewelry Store Owner Speaks Out
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- "I just wake up and I can just see this guy coming in with that mask and just waving that gun at us." says Jeanette Mims, Owner of Mims Fine Jewelry on Garners Ferry Road.
Jeanette Mims says it's hard to sleep after her jewelry store, that she's owned for more than 30 years, was robbed at gunpoint this week.
"He was like a madman, just, you know just using that foul language in here," says Mims.
The scene sounds like one from a movie.
"All of a sudden, I happened to look up and I've never heard such a noise. I thought, oh my goodness, what in the world is going on? It sounded like the door was coming down," says Mims
Jeanette, her daughter and Pastor, who routinely stops by to visit, were held at gun point.
"I was over against the wall on the floor, my daughter was behind me on the floor," says Mims.
"He kept saying, 'Where is the money, where is the cash? Where's the cash?," says Mims.
Jeanette says it was in those moments that she thought her life was over.
"I just knew it was my time," says Mims.
She says the robbers smashed counters and took her most expensive pieces, bridal sets, then fled.
A witness in a nearby business saw the suspects moments before the crime.
"She saw this car pull up in front of the store and these guys got out and put masks on and she said, 'Oh my goodness, they are about to rob the jewelry store.' Immediately she calls 911 and gives them the license plate," says Mims
Another witness reportedly chased after the suspects, one is now in custody.
23 year old Armond Gibson has been charged in the case and denied bond.
Wednesday we learned he's wanted for Murder in Atlanta.
"He could've killed us yesterday," says Mims.
Police say Gibson's accomplice remains on the run, but Mims Fine Jewelry is back open for business as Jeanette tries to move on.
"I don't know if I'll ever get over it, I really don't," say Mims.
Gibson is charged with two counts of Armed Robbery, four counts of Kidnapping, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle-- allegedly stolen from DeKalb County.
Gibson and his accomplice reportedly wore masks and dark clothing at the time of the robbery Tuesday morning.
