Brett Parker Case Timeline
The events leading up to the verdict
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- ABC Columbia takes a look back at the events that lead up to today's guilty verdict in the Brett Parker double murder trial.
Brett Parker was found guilty of killing his wife, Tammy Jo Parker, and gambling business associate, Bryan Capnerhurst, April 13, 2012, at the Parkers' Irmo home. The Prosecution alleged Parker was in substantial gambling debt and plotted to kill his wife to cash in on her $1million life insurance policy and framed Bryan Capnerhurst, a business associate and family friend, for the murder by also killing him. The Defense maintained Parker shot and killed Capnerhurst in self defense after Capnerhurst shot and killed Tammy Jo Parker. Defense lawyers claim Bryan Capnerhurst went to the Parker home in a rage because Brett Parker owed him money, some $20,000.
It took a jury less than three hours to find Parker guilty. He was sentenced to two life sentences with no possibility of parole. Unless he wins an appeal, he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
