COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- "This is historical," says Governor Nikki Haley.

Wednesday, Gamecock baseball took over the state house.

A celebration to honor the team for their back to back national titles also brought out some familiar faces.

"Why would you not want to relive a moment that's that special to you?," says Whit Merrifield, former Carolina baseball team member.

The day's celebration even had Governor Haley cheering.

"I will tell you all of you know I am a die hard Clemson Alumni, but I will tell you today I am a proud Governor and a proud citizen of the state of South Carolina," says Governor Haley.

The team was once again honored with a framed Gamecock flag, the same flag that flew over the state house after the team's second win in Omaha.

"There wasn't a person in the state that didn't have chills when they saw the Carolina flag flying over the statehouse," says Governor Haley.

"What we have in Columbia with college baseball is like no where else," says Merrifield.

Crandall Sims reporting, "The team may have won back in June, but even nearly eight months later, the the city is still showing their Gamecock pride, but some state senators want to take their pride even further, they've actually proposed renaming the field to the Ray Tanner field at Carolina Stadium."

However, that has since been put on hold, Senator Courson tell us the decision will be up to the USC Board of Trustees.

But hopes for this upcoming season are not on hold.

"We are hoping fro a 3-peat, I don't want to jinks it and put the pressure on your Coach Tanner, but you have have set a standard that I think no other University in the nation has ever come close to," says Representative Harry B. Limehouse,III

However, Coach Tanner isn't exactly promsing a 3-peat.

"Our season starts in a few days now and we will do our best to try and put a great team on the field once again," says Coach Ray Tanner, Head Coach South Carolina Baseball

His players agree.

"We approach each year the same and the past couple of years we've had a couple of great teams and I believe we have another great team this year," says Adam Matthews, USC Outfielder and 2012 Co-Captain.
