(WOLO) COLUMBIA, S.C., --

A string of violent incidents in the five points area over the past few weeks have some people questioning how safe the entertainment district will be this year.

Columbia police officer Jim Crawford says revelers can rest easy since they are beefing up their presence to make sure they are able to respond to any and everything at a moments notice. Police are approaching this festival as an " all hands on deck" weekend.

" It will be an elevated presence everywhere in the city, specifically in five points. You won't be able to go 100 feet without seeing a cpd officer".

Police say they have been working closely with the Five Points Association as they continue to find ways to deter crime in the area. For now, police are depending on more manpower, the use of cameras on nearly every corner, and eyewitnesses ready to report anything that raises a red flag.
