COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) - A sizable check in the amount of $250,000 is coming to the City of Columbia.

Its Housing Authority is one of 17 entities across the country to receive a Choice Neighborhood grant.

That money will be used to revitalize public housing at Allen Benedict Court and Gonzales Gardens in the eastern part of the city.

The idea behind the grant is to transform distressed areas of poverty into viable, mixed-income neighborhoods.
