COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- "For me, its tough in any situation young or old, but you know it does leave a more heavily impact on people when there are children involved," says Lance Corporal Brent Kelly of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

It's an accident that has forever changed a Midlands family.

18 year old Cameron Stringfellow is in jail charged in connection with his own brother, 16 year old John Corey Stringfellow's death.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Cameron Stringfellow had been drinking and was driving a 2012 BMW on Shallow Brook Drive early Friday morning. Around 2:00 o'clock that morning, Troopers say he hit a parked car on the side of the road, then continued down Shallow Brook Drive until he hit several trees, bringing the car to a stop.

Troopers say John Corey Stringfellow was in the backseat, later pronounced dead at the hospital. Friday morning the Stringfellow's driveway was full of cars as many stopped by to offer condolences. Meanwhile, the South Carolina Highway Patrol continued to piece together what happened.

"It's tough to start off the weekend like this," say Kelly

Kelly was also at the scene Friday and he says accidents like this bring the dangers of drinking and driving to the forefront.

"If that's the choice you want to make and alcohol is going to be there, we just ask that you don't get drive a vehicle," says Kelly.

The accident comes on the very day that the state's 100 Deadly Days of Summer begins.

"Stay where you are going to be at , get someone to come pick you up. We don't want it to end in a tragic situation like this," says Kelly

Cameron Stringfellow is charged with Felony DUI, he faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
