COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – In an effort to get employees to be an active part of their child’s education, Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin announced that employees of the city will be given time off to take their kids to their first day of school.

The mayor announced this opportunity Friday and wrote a letter explaining the rationale of this policy. “I encourage you to join me by taking part in this wonderful moment in our children’s lives by taking them to their first day of school and helping start this year with energy, eager to learn and feeling our support and our love,” said Mayor Steve Benjamin.
