Consumer Minute: Fake Funeral Scam

By Crysty Vaughan

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)-- Crysty Vaughan has tips on what to look out for in this scam.
The Federal trade commission warns you to be on the lookout for anything that says "Funeral Notification" in the subject line.
The fake email appears to be from a funeral home, offering the date for a funeral service, and invites you to click on the link for more information.
Do not click on the link. Delete the link.
Consumer officials say it could download a virus.

I find it very troubling that if the FTC is aware of this SCAM they are not being PROACTIVE - rather than reactive ----PUTTING THE RESPONSIBILITY on the shoulders of consumers to assume the risk WHEN THE FTC/INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS pay mega-bucks their IT dept to BLOW SUCH SCAMS OUT OF THE WATER AND LOCK UP the instigators of these scams!!!!!!
