COLUMBIA, S.C. (CNN) - Certain "Mr. Coffee" coffeemakers are under recall for a dangerous malfunction.

The recall involves 600,000 of the Chinese-made Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewing Systems.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the appliance can suddenly release a stream of scalding water and coffee grounds.
The defect has caused 61 reported injuries, including burns to the face and hands.

The coffeemaker in question was sold nationwide between September 2010 and this month.

It was priced between $60 and $80 and comes in black with silver, red, or white trim.

The model number is printed on the bottom of the brewer.

Target, Walmart, Kmart, JC Penny and Bed, Bath and Beyond all sold the device.

The CPSC says owners should stop using the coffeemaker.
