Dating Website Billboard Features Sanford
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford is once again at the center of attention, for what is arguably the wrong reason.
Crandall Sims reporting, "Take a look, this billboard featuring Sanford, went up just this week. And it takes direct aim at the cheating scandal that rocked his second term as governor."
Sanford is currently trying to make a political comeback by running for the state's open District One Congressional Seat, but it seems his past just won't go away.
"Politicians, athletes, entertainers or your friends and neighbors, you know, what they are as a person is distinct from what they are in their personal bedroom lives," says Noel Biderman, CEO and Co-founder of Ashley Madison
Biderman joined ABC Columbia News by phone Tuesday to talk about the ad that features a younger Sanford.
"My 19 million members are part of his constituency and part of his base and so I don't think there is anything wrong with bringing it up. I don't think anyone should shy away from it," says Biderman
Sanford isn't the only high profiler to be featured. We're told Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Prince Charles have also been in ads for the company.
"It's just time to kind of leave that, you know, almost double standard behind us and judge politicians and everyday people for what they are and not just what does on in their marriage," says Biderman.
We reached out to Sanford's campaign for a comment, but we haven't heard back.
Biderman tells us the billboard costs about $10,000 and will remain up for about two weeks. He also says, depending on how Sanford's run for office goes, there could be more billboards featuring Sanford in the future.
