Eight Years Later, A Mother Still Pleads for Answers
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- "Somebody knows something," says Gerda Willmeth, mother of Diana Wilmeth For the past eight years, Gerda Willmeth has searched for those responsible for killing her daughter in May of 2005. "Diana's at peace, I wish they would find her killer," says Willmeth We visited Diana's grave site with her mother Monday. "Diana's always around, look around, she's always around,"says Willmeth For Gerda Willmeth, the killer is someone local. "Where she was killed, it may have been somebody from that bar that night," says Willmeth Willmeth showed us a picture of where she says her daughter was found raped, beaten and shot to death, the location is just two miles from where Diana lived. "I honestly believe somebody out there in the Lexington County area knows something that they may think is minor, but it might just put the puzzle together," say Willmeth But so far, the pieces aren't fitting. According to the Lexington County Sheriff's Office, investigators have identified a person of interest. But, they have yet to develop sufficient probable cuase for an arrest warrant. And with no new leads, the case remains unsolved. But, Willmeth continues to search even posting information on her pick-up truck. "Last week when I was in a parking lot somebody asked me about and I gave them a flier and he's from the Lexington area," says Willmeth. Willmeth tells us the family continues to offer a $5,000 reward in the case. If you have any information, call CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
