Feds Tell Duke to Improve Nuke Plant Fire Controls
SENECA, S.C. (AP) _ Federal regulators say Duke Energy failed to meet a deadline to install a fire protection system at the Oconee Nuclear Station near Seneca.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Tuesday the failure was a low level violation and won't penalize the utility as long as it meets new, stricter fire control standards by 2016.
In the meantime, Duke Energy promised to improve other fire protection systems until the new units can be put in place.
Duke Energy operates three reactors at the site in Oconee County.
